The Music Institute of Chicago - Highland Park Campus |
I have been teaching voice students -- children and adults, amateurs and professionals -- for the past 17 years. I am currently on the voice faculty of The Music Institute of Chicago (Highland Park Campus), as well as teaching from my private studio in Chicago and out of my home in Wheeling.
In the past, I have taught voice and theatre classes for Eileen Boevers’ Performing Arts Workshop, Northbrook Children’s Theatre, Stage Coach Schools, and the Park Districts of Highland Park and Buffalo Grove. I have also served as musical director for over 20 musicals and reviews, including shows at area community theatres, high schools, community colleges, and summer stock theatres in Wisconsin and Michigan. However, I prefer the one-on-one, specialized contact of private instruction.
Although I was originally classically trained, most of my professional life has been spent in the theatre and cabaret realms, and I specialize in working with students interested in more popular styles of music (theatre, cabaret, pop, folk, etc.). My varied musical roles, along with the fact that I continue to lead an active performing life, give me a unique ability to teach students with a variety of interests.
I believe vocal students are musicians, not just singers, and should be taught as such. Therefore, my teaching approach includes ear training and sight singing (music reading), as well as repertoire work, song interpretation, and performance coaching. I also teach piano skills for singers to those who are interested.
Because not all teachers are a good match for all students, I offer all students studying at my home or studio an introductory ½ price lesson, so we can see if we are a good fit for one another. Students interested in studying with me at The Music Institute of Chicago will be allowed a 15-minute consultation free of charge.
If you are interested in either a one-time coaching session or on-going lessons, please contact me. Don’t be shy! We’ll have fun! Singing is good for the soul!
